CBCA Championship

The CBCA Championship is an annual, premier sheepdog trial competition sponsored by the Canadian Border Collie Asociation. It features top-level working Border Collies in 'Open' and 'Nursery' classes. It is considered one of the highest-level, most prestigious trials often acting as a qualifier for international competitions like the World Sheepdog Trials.

PURPOSE: To showcase and test the working abilities of registered Border Collies, featuring a challenging "Double Lift" final.
ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible to run in the Double Lift final, dogs must be registered with the CBCA and handlers must be members by June 1, 2026. Register here: https://www.canadianbordercollies.org/forms
STRUCTURE: This event will include an Open class for experienced dogs and a Nursery class for dogs under 3 years old.

Nursery Judge

Ken Price

Ken Price, from Dawson Creek, BC, has been running Dogs since 1989, winning many open trials with multiple dogs. He also runs a shepherding operation and grazing project with his sheep, in numbers up to 2000.

In 2017 he qualified for the world team and had the opportunity to go to the Netherlands for worlds, but had to stay home to run his grazing business.

He's judged many trials through the years, and is very talented and skilled at his craft.

Open Judge

Gordon Watt

Gordon Watt was born in Ireland in 1964, to a family of shepherds. He currently lives in Woodstock, Illinois. His father is William Watt, is a legend in sheepdogs.

At an early age Gordon became interested in all aspects of sheep care and sheepdog training. When he was 15, Gordon and his first dog, Chum, won second in the Irish Nationals and it was on from there.

In 1999, he was Irish National Champion, and in 2005, Gordon became World Champion, after also winning the English National Championship with his dog, York.

Nursery Setter

Jen L’Arrivee

Jen L’Arrivee, Dore River Border Collies Jen has been working with stock dogs for over 30 years and recently won the Western Canadian Double Lift Sheep Dog Championship.

Open Setter

Josh Gibson

Josh has been trialing sheepdogs for about six years and has qualified for the National Finals every year with his dogs Tom and EZ. In 2024, EZ was named Most Promising Dog at the National Finals.
